AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is Chapter 3 of What the Body Knew, a memoir built around the senior history thesis I completed in August 1988, just before leaving for London on a Rotary scholarship. The thesis examined the 1973-74 revival at Hartville Christian School in Hartville, Ohio. Thirty-eight years later, I am finally revising and publishing it — this time not as a historian, but as a memoirist who understands what the historian missed. The completed book from Ascendant Press is scheduled for publication on September 20, 2026.
